The World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship was pushed north of the border this year due to COVID-19. The event will be played at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, as the WGC-Workday Championship. Below, we look at the 2021 Workday Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Championship

PGA Championship Betting Guide 2021 As golf's fourth and most unpredictable major, the PGA Championship is one of the most popular betting events on the sporting calendar. This year the event heads to San Francisco for the first time with an incredible field. The interest in golf betting on the PGA Tour continues to grow. And for the bigger events like this week’s THE PLAYERS Championship, and majors – starting with next months Masters – wagering action reaches peak levels as the stakes intensify. THE PLAYERS Championship was canceled last year after one round due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dustin Johnson has never won the PGA Championship but he's been installed as the top betting favorite to win at +850 odds (Bet $100 to win $850). Along with Johnson, there are five other golfers listed at 20/1 odds or lower to win the 2021 PGA Championship.

The 72-man field includes each of the top-15 golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Patrick Reed (No. 15) looks to defend his WGC title in Mexico last year. Max Homa (No. 68) comes off a victory at last week’s Genesis Invitational.

UPDATE:Patrick Cantlaywithdrew Wednesday night.

The event takes center stage this week with the Puerto Rico Open hosting an alternate field at Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1600)

DeChambeau missed the cut last week at 2-over par. It was his first MC since The Northern Trust at the beginning of last season’s FedEx Cup Playoffs. He slipped to 11th in the Golfweek rankings but has the eighth-best odds to win this week.

He won the 2015 NCAA Championship hosted here and has an experience edge over most of the field with this being the first PGA Tour event played at The Concession. DeChambeau also ranks second on Tour for the 2020-21 season with 2.32 Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green per round.

The reigning US Open champ was the runner-up at last year’s WGC in Mexico and later tied for 30th at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. His all-or-nothing style is well-suited to the no-cut format of WGC events.

Will Zalatoris (+5000)

Zalatoris continues to fly up the Golfweek rankings and is No. 9 following his T-15 finish at the Genesis Invitational. He has finished outside the top 17 in just one of four events to open his 2021 schedule.

The 24-year-old one-time Korn Ferry Tour winner has never played in a WGC event, but he tied for sixth at last year’s US Open against all of the same top competition. His odds are inflated from other events this season, but he has already proven his worth against similarly strong fields.

Lee Westwood (+12500)

Westwood, 47, hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2010, but he won last year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the European Tour over many of the world’s top golfers.

The veteran is averaging 0.46 SG: Putting through 19 measured rounds to go with 0.29 SG: Off-the-Tee. He tied for 13th at last year’s US Open and was the runner-up at the Euro Tour’s marquee DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, in mid-December. He frequently contends in strong fields on both Tours despite poor recent results in WGC events.

Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm, ranked Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings return to play after skipping last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tyrrell Hatton +4000

Hatton’s coming off a rollercoaster performance in his defense of his 2020 title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He opened and closed the tournament with rounds of plus-5, 77, but his second round of 67 was the second-best round of the day and his third-round 66 was Saturday’s fourth-best score.

He lost 1.22 strokes per round on the greens last week, but he gained 0.96 strokes per round around the greens with 2.52 Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and 0.86 SG: Approach per round. He’s still averaging 0.33 SG: Putting per round for the 2020-21 season and should bounce back with the flat stick.

Though he missed the cut in each of the last two runnings of this event, he returns with his first PGA Tour victory and three other wins on the European Tour since then.

Abraham Ancer +7000

Ancer leads the PGA Tour in driving accuracy at 72.50% through 40 rounds. Additionally, he’s T-31 in par 5 scoring average and T-37 in bogey avoidance, all of which are key stats for the 7,189-yard, par-72 TPC Sawgrass.

He has two missed cuts in six international events in 2021, but he tied for fifth at The American Express and is coming off a quality T-18 showing against most of this week’s top competition at the WGC-Workday Championship. He tied for 12th in his debut at this event in 2019 with 2.02 strokes gained on the field per round from tee to green.

2021 Players Championship picks – Long shot

Lee Westwood +10000

This is a staggering price for last week’s runner-up to DeChambeau. Westwood was third in last week’s field with 1.57 SG: Approach and led the field with 3.30 SG: Tee-to-Green per round. His shorter driver won’t be as much of a disadvantage against this week’s top contenders at the shorter venue as it was against DeChambeau Sunday at Bay Hill.

Westwood’s third PGA Tour event of 2021 will come at another familiar course. He has played 32 career rounds with an average of 1.48 strokes gained on the field per round at TPC Sawgrass. He hasn’t played here since 2017 but has three top-10 finishes in his last six appearances.

Last week’s third-place finisher, Corey Conners, is just +7000 to win this week.
