Abu Azaitar is receiving a suspension for banned substances. Consequently, the news was issued first by the United States Anti Doping Agency and the UFC. The German-born athlete accepted a seven-month sentence.
Specifically, the 34-year old Azaitar tested positive for tamoxifen. The USADA report showed four separate dates: August 25, 2020, September 4, 2020, September 9, 2020, and September 17, 2020. Additionally, the substance was found in urine samples. However, once Azaitar was aware of the infraction, he provided USADA with medical documents. One of those records is a prescription for tamoxifen.

Following contact with USADA, Azaitar accepted a seven-month suspension. Since he did not have a therapeutic use exemption (TUE), his conduct violated the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and UFC Prohibited List. With a retroactive ineligible date of August 25, 2020, he is able to compete again on October 25, 2021. USADA is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental agency. Earlier last month, UFC bantamweight Raquel Pennington received a suspension as well.
Azaitar is an imposing force inside the cage. In particular, his ability on the feet led to a massive winning streak. Despite the bad news, Azaitar is still unbeaten in his last nine fights. In addition, he also picked up his first win under the UFC banner against Vitor Miranda in 2018. The German-native will be out of action for seven months, but he is always troublesome on the feet. Without a doubt, Azaitar will be looking for a big comeback. Since he is on such a monster win-streak, who would you like to see the middleweight take a fight with on his return?
